Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

Q. What is a typical cycle time for burn-in boards?

A. Our standard cycle time ranges from 5 - 7 weeks depending on the complexity.

Q. What standard does CEIBIS use to manufacture their products?

A. CEIBIS uses IPC 6012, Class II as our manufacturing standard for all processes except thermal stressing where we use Class III.

Q. How do you test your burn in boards?

A. All our products undergo thorough static and dynamic testing. Bibs with only passive components go through TripleS testing which incorporates a device emulated probe to ensure all nets from the socket pin to system driver edge connectors have expected continuity, resistance and capacitance. Bibs with active components undergo static and dynamic testing. Our dynamic testing of active components is a unique internal approach that ensures all active components on the boards are functional and reliable. Finally, all Bibs are tested for specified signal and power integrity requirements.

Q. What if my product doesn't work when I receive it?

A. Our experienced staff of engineers can be directly contacted for bring up support with any of our products. In many instances the issue is simply resolved over the phone however we also offer on-site support as an extended option to our customer. Our goal is to ensure any and all issues are resolved in a timely fashion to ensure that the customers time to market is not affected.

DESIGN

Q. How long is your design cycle time for burn-in, HAST and THB boards?

A. 6 working days for 2-6 layers
A. 10 working days for 8-14 layers
A. 15 working days for 16 - 26 layers

Q. What design tools do you use to generate the BIB design?

A. We use P-CAD to generate our design. It's a very intelligent and powerful design tool. We can generate the schematic design which lays out a multi-layer schematic along with all of the electrical connections and assigned electrical parts. All of this is then integrated into and captured in the PCB layout. We also have Pads-Power PCB, Protel and Allegro 4.1 design tools all available to us.

Q. What process do you use to ensure quality design?

A. The design is subjected to a multiple phase design check including; schematic, final design and prior to the release to Fab. THis process includes the use of automated DRC (Design Rule Check) and DFM (Design for Manufacturing) checking tools. Our quality check in CAM (Computer aided Manufacturing) is focused to verify that the design fully meets IPC standards and optimizes the design for PCB Fab manufacturing.

Q. What type of files, and format would I be receiving in order to review my design?

A. We have many formats we could generate for design review and checking: P-CAD. pdf files, ACAD, CAM350 (GBR), and Gerbtool gtd files. All of these have free viewers available to be down loaded from the web. Hard copy "E" size Pen plots are also available for your design review and for records.

Q. Do I receive a BOM or a parts list with my design?

A. Yes, we can automatically generate for you a parts list with all the electrical and mechanical components that are included in the design upon request.

Q. Does CEIBIS hold and/or include an Engineering specification review and design meeting?

A. Yes, we hold an Engineering specification review prior to proceeding with the design, where we invite the customer to participate via a teleconference or we summarize any areas requiring clarification via email. We also hold regular design review meetings with the customer upon request.

Q. What is the maximum frequency at which your bibs will operate?

A. We have designed bibs that operate at more than 3GHz.

Q. What technologies do you use for Hi-speed signals?

A. Single ended CMOS (up to approximately 35MHz max), ECL, LVDS and Microwave.

Q. Does CEIBIS use active devices on bibs?

A. Yes, CEIBIS has extensive experience designing, manufacturing and testing burn-in solutions with various active components.
